"Now my grandfather (Dads dad was married twice). He was John. His first wife died young I believe (don’t know her name). My uncle Tom was the only child to them, He obviously was the oldest and a half brother to the rest. They all lived lived in Derry Taveraun. Then came my Father Michael Born there but lived Stacksteads, Then Mary Anne (born there) lived in Black wood stacksteads for a while and had 2 girls and a boy then moved back to Ireland same area. Then Darby born there and owned the farm with his wife Bridget till his death about 15 years ago, then Delia born there and lived in Rochdale from 20 onwards. Then youngest John (born there) who lived in Dartford Kent and died within the last 5 years at a ripe old age I believe. I can’t say if they ever lived in Urlaur but they may have as the names add up although some Delia and Maryanne are missing as they may have not been born as yet. I always thought Mary Anne was older than dad but may be wrong on that score. Yes my older brother is John living in Stacksteads. Father of young John the great singer and guitarist. John lives up Fernhill drive Stacksteads along with his wife Pamela."

I believe a many Irish in Bacup were quarry men - especially in stacksteads. On my grandfather (John Daley) sign up papers for the Army in 1909 it says he was a quarry man and his physique was "muscular" he faught in the first world war with the east lancs regiment, though its hard to ascertain where due to another John Daley being from Bacup also (signd up later). My grandadad grew up on King Street in Bacup. He was also chairman of the Irish club in Bacup for many years I have been told. His father (Timothy I believe) was from near Tuam in Galway, his mother Maria was from Ballina in eastern Mayo. I will have to look at the family tree for more info -On my Mums side family are from Drogheda - Simon Daley - Victoria BC
